Sending data

Once a feasibility assessment or a project has been agreed, this is how the data gets to me.

Before you send anything

  • Confirm the measurement definition in writing, so that what comes back is what you expected.
  • Send the raw instrument files rather than exported images. Exported PNGs and TIFFs have lost the height data the measurement depends on.
  • Include the scan size and any flattening already applied. If the files carry this in their metadata, nothing further is needed.
  • If an NDA is required, put it in place first.

For a feasibility assessment

Send 10 to 20 representative images. Representative matters more than best: images that reflect the real range of quality in the dataset give a far more accurate assessment than a curated selection of the cleanest fields.

For a full project

Send the complete dataset in one transfer. Inputs are frozen on receipt and the manifest is built from what arrives, so a dataset delivered in pieces has to be re-frozen and re-manifested each time.

How to transfer

Datasets are usually too large for email, so transfers are arranged individually. Send the details below and you will receive a secure transfer link.

Quoted in the reply to your enquiry. It is how the files get matched to the agreed measurement definition.

For example: 4 GB. This determines which transfer method is offered.

For example: Bruker Nanoscope .spm, Asylum .ibw, JPK .jpk.

What happens next

  1. Receipt is confirmed, with a file count and a manifest of what arrived.
  2. The dataset is checked against the measurement definition before any processing begins.
  3. If something is wrong with the data, you hear about it at this point rather than in the final report.

How your data is handled

Client data is held in access-scoped storage. It is not used for any purpose other than the engagement without written agreement. Raw inputs are retained for a defined period after delivery and then removed.
